Mr. Melvin
J. Visser joined the Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo, Michigan
after graduating form Michigan Tech with a Chemical Engineering
degree in 1959. He later earned a Masters degree in Chemistry
from Western Michigan University and completed the Business
Leadership Institute at the University of Michigan in 1974.
While at Upjohn Mr. Visser worked in Design Engineering, Chemical
Process R&D, Production Technical Support, Fermentation
Production Management, and Chemical Production Management
before becoming Manager of Materials and Capacity Management
in 1979. He held the position of Director of Engineering Administration
from 1981-1986 when he was named Vice President of Engineering
for Allied Health Care business. He was appointed Vice President
of Environmental Quality and Safety in 1993, a position he
held until his retirement from Upjohn in 1995. During his
tenure at Upjohn, Mr. Visser received seven patents, the most
prominent for soil vapor extraction, which is now used worldwide
as a soil remediation technology. Mr. Visser was the past
Co-Chair of the Great Lakes Regional Corporate Environmental
Council, is a founder of the Kalamazoo area Junior Hockey
Program and is a current member of the Forum for Kalamazoo
County. He is a board member of the Michigan Tech Fund and
a member of the Presidents Club. |
